Professional, Administrative, and Technical positions Professional, Administrative, and Technical work involves the exercise of analytical ability, judgment, and the application of a substantial body of knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices applicable to one or more fields of administration or management or technology. We employ a civilian staff needed to provide administrative support to our missions. Professional, Administrative, and Technical activities support the critical role in serving and protecting America’s coastlines and waterways throughout the country. Each day, the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard save lives, enforce law, operate port and waterways, and protect the environment. Every employee plays an essential role in protecting American lives, property, and the environment. Administrative Support positions Administrative Support positions support the agency's management infrastructure, the development and logistics of serving and protecting America’s coastlines and waterways throughout the country. Typical duties involve such tasks as preparing, receiving, reviewing, and verifying documents; processing transactions; locating and compiling data or information from various sources; and using a variety of computer products to prepare printed material or to store or manipulate information. The support provided by the clerical employees plays an important role in helping the agency to meet the many security challenges facing the nation. Trades and Labor positions Trades and Labor positions (commonly referred to as blue collar) may include trades, crafts, and manual labor. Positions include jobs like carpentry, maintenance mechanics, electricians, and plumbers. Trades and Labor Positions are responsible for the maintenance, engineering, supply and information services to support our missions. These positions support the unique characteristics of a multi-mission maritime agency with regulatory, law enforcement, and humanitarian-focused emergency response authority, as well as military capability. The Trade and Labor workforce is a highly motivated, well-trained, cost-effective service that has demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to meet our priorities. Senior Executive Service (SES) positions The men and women in SES positions are charged with leading the continuing transformation of the U.S. Coast Guard. These leaders possess well-honed executive skills and share a broad perspective of government and a public service commitment. These SES positions are designed to be a corps of executives selected for their leadership qualifications. Members of the SES serve key roles in managerial, supervisory, and policy positions. Student positions We hire student employees to support various organizations within the agency. Student employment opportunities exist to develop skills necessary to support our missions. Some positions may provide career opportunities to students after graduation. Student positions may include engineering, science, financial, contracting, information technology, logistics, human resources, and many more. Part-time positions Part-time positions may include Professional, Administrative, Technical, Clerical and Trades and Labor positions.
