Special Instructions:
Primary focus on Regional Transmission Planning. Candidate can demonstrate advanced technical skills and process knowledge in the area of bulk transmission planning. Ability to perform computer simulation of the transmission system utilizing PSS/E or PSLF. Demonstrate an understanding of federal/regional/local/planning guidelines including MISO, WECC, SPP, FERC, NERC, and state utility commission regulations. This is a hierarchical position for professional engineering work in the Transmission Planning area. Placement within the compensation levels (Specialty, Senior Specialty, Principal Specialty and Consulting Engineer) will be commensurate with the candidate’s skills and experience. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (EE preferred). Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is desirable. Fundementals of Engineering (FE) and Licensed Professional Engineer certification (PE) are required for certain levels of this position. Senior position requires a minimum of six years of distribution/substation/transmission design or operations experience demonstrating thorough knowledge and skill in applying advanced engineering principles.

Position Summary:
Works as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as fully trained worker.
Essential Responsibilities: Percent of Time
a) Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of related specialties. 70%
b) Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. 10%
c) May supervise or coordinate the work of engineers, drafters, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments. 20%
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent, plus appropriate continuing education. Engineering-In-Training certification is required. Licensed Professional Engineer certification is desirable. Membership in Professional Society (Associate or Member Grade) and/or Technical Societies (Associate Grade) is preferred. Requires 3-5 years of experience equivalent to Engineer II, depending upon performance.
