SENIOR RESEARCH ENGINEER
The United States Bowling Congress is recognized by the Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body and membership organization for the sport of bowling. As bowling increases in popularity, we seek enthusiastic candidates to join our team at the national headquarters for the organized sport of bowling, located in Arlington, Texas. We are currently looking for a qualified Senior Research Engineer to work with our Specifications and Certifications Team!
This position will assist the Specifications and Certifications team in their efforts to maintain the integrity of the sport of bowling. This position will lead research by using proper engineering and scientific concepts and conduct research into the “Four Factors of the Sport”, which includes bowling balls, pins, lanes, and oils/oil patterns.
This position will conduct research and compile, analyze, and interpret results related to the topics listed above, as well as bowling equipment and products (balls, pins, lanes, scoring devices, lane dressing, lane machines, etc.) and the interrelation and interaction between them that have an influence on scoring. The person will assist in the custom design, development, and building of testing and research equipment used in research endeavors. This person will draw conclusions from research results and will assist in making recommendations to support USBC strategic initiatives.
•Work toward continuous improvement of existing approval methods.
•Identify and work with resources, external to team, required in meeting objectives. Contract and negotiate with outside services to support equipment development and testing services.
•Ensure that corrective action is taken when necessary.
•Provide support to the Equipment Specifications and Certifications Committee.
•Participate in team meetings and team activities to accomplish various goals of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Provide the technical philosophy of the department, by leading research by using proper engineering and scientific concepts
•Research and develop new technology incorporating the sport of bowling
•Conduct, coordinate, and provide oversight on top priority research projects
•Mentor research and test engineers and provide guidance to them on research projects
•Work toward continuous improvement of existing approval methods.
•Identify and work with resources, external to team, required in meeting objectives. Contract and negotiate with outside services to support equipment development and testing services.
Qualifications
•BS in an engineering with 5 plus years of experience in R and D or MS in engineering with 3 plus years of experience in R and D.
•Project Management Experience required.
•Ability to learn new concepts and computer concepts quickly and efficiently.
•Ability to communicate ideas efficiently to technical and non-technical people alike.
•Ability to work as a member of a team.
•Knowledge of bowling is required – more than just casual knowledge, must be familiar enough w/ sport to understand interrelation between equipment and products (eg. what effect various oil patterns have on scores, etc…..)
•Ability to effectively prioritize work, manage multiple assignments and work under and meet deadlines.
•Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational skills.
•Proficiency with current computer technology and software applications (eg. MS Word, Excel, email/Internet required. Access, Solidworks or Pro-E, Minitab helpful.)
•Ability to move up to 60 lbs and push up to 300 lbs machine.
•Must possess the ability to speak in front of large groups required.
