Position Description

 

Overview:

This is an opportunity for someone to help ensure the reliability of LCRA's transmission system.  Preferred candidates will have experience working with protective relay equipment and software, troubleshooting and repair skills as well as a degree in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, or industrial maintenance.   

 

At a senior level, coordinates and performs advanced shop and field duties for the installation, maintenance, testing and operation of protective relay equipment for electric power substations and other facilities.  This position utilizes in-depth knowledge of best practices and experience in own discipline to provide and improve services.  Takes a new perspective to solve complex problems.  Works independently and receives minimal guidance.  Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may direct the work of other staff members. 
- Independently tests and implements relay schemes and settings using relay and test software, maintaining proper documentation.
- Independently performs maintenance and troubleshooting of complex circuits.
- Independently commissions field equipment.
- Coordinates and works with other LCRA work groups to complete construction and upgrade projects in a timely manner.
- Works with Engineering to ensure accurate drawings and proper functioning of equipment and control schemes.
- Consults with other senior technicians and supervision on especially complex issues.
- Interfaces with power plant and customer representatives on maintenance and construction projects.
- Identifies and determines re-wiring requirements and assigns other technicians to perform work, as appropriate.
- Troubleshoots relay equipment misoperation using oscillographic and phasor representations.
- Assists supervisor with the development of work procedures.
- Uses relay software/hardware manuals to gain knowledge and teach others.
- Operates handheld manual tools and power tools in performing installation and maintenance tasks.
- Performs work by traveling independently or with a small crew to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as scheduled.
- Provides day-to-day guidance and direction to less-experienced team members.
