DescriptionThe City of Champaign seeks two qualified candidates for the position of Intern in the Planning and Development Department. One intern will be focused on zoning administration and one intern will be focused on research.Responsibilities of PositionThe position will work on a variety of planning-related projects performed by the Department. As an intern in this position, you will gain experience on projects including, but not limited to: surveying conditions of the community as it relates to zoning and land use, preparing maps and graphics, conducting general research on planning-related topics, assisting planners with citizen outreach and zoning enforcement, and providing general customer service in the Planning Department.The position is part-time, starting at 20 hours per week with the potential to increase to 40 hours a week throughout the summer depending on conditions. The position will begin May 10, 2021 and conclude in August 2021. The position will be a blend of virtual and in-office work. While some activities may be remote, certain tasks will be performed in person with appropriate PPE and other precautions.Required Qualifications* Current enrollment in an accredited, University-level Urban Planning program.* Current valid driver's license with a good driving record.* Understanding of the basic components of urban planning and zoning.* Effective written and oral communication skills.* Ability to manage projects.Preferred Qualifications* Working knowledge of GIS and graphic software applications, such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.* Customer service experience.The salary is $11.00 per hour.
