Job/Internship Description
Currently, we are seeking a second- or third-year law student with full or part-time availability for the Becker Legislative Internship Program with our DC office. This position is remote by default, but Interns may work in the office per the firm's COVID-19 policies.Becker is a multi-practice commercial law firm with international affiliates and 16 offices in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Washington, DC. We are looking for professionals that share the same commitment.DUTIES:Specific duties vary, depending on the intern's strengths and ambitions. Conducting legislative research Tracking and preparing summaries of legislation and/or administration activity Attending committee hearings and other informative events (virtually or in person per current COVID-19 precautions) Preparing talking points and/or memoranda for Becker clients Performing administrative tasks (i.e., preparing lobbyist disclosure filings, organizing Hill meetings and receptions, etc.) Any and all other duties as may be required of the jobREQUIREMENTS:Exceptional research and writing skills.Knowledge of the law and the legislative process typically acquired in the first year of law school or equivalent.Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when performing substantive legal functions.Ability to efficiently proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling terpersonal skills necessary to:communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, lobbyists and staff, and provide information with ordinary courtesy and municate by phone and email and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.Ability to manage competing deadlines and process a high volume of requests for information while performing other essential duties.Ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes, retrieve mail, push, and pull packages or similar items weighing up to 20 pounds, and retrieve/replace objects from shelves of up to 8 feet high.Ability to travel to private and public buildings locally via private or public conveyance (per current COVID-19 precautions) to assist attorneys and lobbyists in attending to client needs on legal matters.Becker is committed to diversity in the workplace.
