Xcel Energy is seeking acivil/structural/geotechnical engineering studentto work full or part-time from May, 2022to December 2022.Students will need to defer their Spring 2022 semester of study if particpating in the full-time co-op. The person hired for the hydro engineering position should be prepared to spendsignificant time outside in the field at various hydroelectric facilities.The position is located in Hydro Operations in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Hydroelectric facilities are located throughout northwestern Wisconsin.If hired, travel expenses, including mileage, lodging, and meals, arecovered by the company. The companydoes notprovide reimbursement for initial relocation costs. The ideal candidate must be able to live in the Eau Clare, WI area for 6-8 months.
Students graduating Spring 2022 are not eligible for an internship job, and will not be considered. You must be currenlty enrolled in anABET accredited college or university to be considered.
Position Summary
Work with the engineering staff to support hydroelectric plant projects and operations. Work as an entry level engineering analyst performing various tasks primarily related to dam safety and hydro operations.Duties may include construction observation, dam safety inspections, plans and specifications review, risk evaluation, emergency action planning, and technical report writing and review.Through practical field experience and mentoring, successful candidate will gain significant professional and technical skills.
Minimum Requirements
* Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited civil or structural engineering program
* A Junior or above as of Spring 2022.
* Graduating Seniors as of Fall 2021 (not continuing to graduate school) are not eligible to participate.
* Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
* Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally
* Must be self-motivated, have good technical skills, and ability to work well with others
* Reliable transportation
*Able to travel to various hyrdro facilities at least 25% of the time
* Must be able to commit to the internship for 6-8 months (May- December2022)
PreferredRequirements
* Course work in structural, geotechnical, or water resources engineering and an interest in dam safety and hydropower
