Job Description

Join our team of Utility Clerks who have supported operations at Union Pacific Railroad for over 150 years! Utility Clerks are accountable for safely transporting train and engine crews, assisting with the upkeep of vehicles, performing janitorial services as well as several clerical duties. We ensure our crews can continue to serve our Union Pacific customers across North America! We are powered by our people, will you join our team?

  • Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices and procedures while transporting crews
  • Perform clerical duties as needed, such as ordering and distributing supplies to crews; supplying and loading printer paper and ribbons; posting bulletins and notices, and completing and distributing reports
  • Operate office support machines and equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to read and understand all instructions including operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements
  • Must have normal color vision
Work Conditions
  • Willing to work on-call, overtime, various shifts, 7 days a week, as well as weekends and holidays

  • Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
  • Position is governed by Transportation Communications International Union (TCU)

  • Travel Requirements: in a vehicle driving up to 130-150 miles per day with the remaining time working indoors
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires
  • To the extent required by federal law and/or collective bargaining agreement, membership to the respective labor union is required. The union agreement dictates the pay rate and cannot be individually negotiated. Monthly dues are the responsibility of the employee.
