Job Summary

UT Southwestern is in search of a Groundskeeper Assistant to join their Landscape Services team. Works under immediate supervision to perform groundskeeping and gardening duties on grounds and in greenhouse of university.

Experience and Education Requirements
  • Minimum 8th grade education and no experience required.
  • Valid State of Texas Driver's License required or obtained within 6 months of being hired.

Job Duties
  • Cut grass using power or hand mower.
  • Trims and edges sidewalks, driveways, and flower beds.
  • Cuts weeds and brush and removes leaves and rubbish from grounds.
  • Waters shrubbery, hedges, seedlings, flowers, and grass.
  • Assists in pruning, spraying, fertilizing, potting plants, and transplanting shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Work requires the ability to operate power mowers and edgers, and to use garden tools, insecticides, and fertilizers.
  • Work requires the ability to understand and follow general but adequate instructions in the performance of routine work tasks, which require occasional minor decisions.

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed mostly outdoors.
  • Working conditions involve continuous exposure to one or more disagreeable elements, such as variable weather conditions, dust, dirt, fertilizers, insecticides, etc.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code *51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
