Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for communications Specialist, Biomedical

Written Announcements: Drafting written announcements for various purposes, such as publications, and symposiums, award recognition, new initiatives, and special events. Newsletters for Biomedical Engineering: Taking the lead in drafting the quarterly and annual newsletters for the biomedical engineering department. This task involves compiling relevant information, highlighting achievements, and presenting updates in a cohesive and engaging manner. Website and Social Media Updates: Focusing on updating and maintaining the organization\'s website and social media outlets. This includes ensuring that the website content is current, accurate, and aligned with the organization\'s messaging and goals. Regular updates may involve news, events, and other relevant information. Reviewing and Editing Documents: Assist staff and faculty members in reviewing documents such as grant proposals, manuscripts, and official letters for clarity and impact.

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree. One year of experience in public relations and working with the media.
  • Two years of specific writing experience.
Job Duties
  • Finds and develops stories on specific topics and writes news releases or articles for internal publications.
  • Pitches these stories to local and national reporters. Maintains close working relationships with major local reporters, editors, and feature writers who cover medicine and science to ensure frequent coverage of UT Southwestern\'s research and clinical care activities.
  • Writes quality magazine stories for annual magazine/annual report or other magazines as assigned, submitting story ideas for magazine with art/photo possibilities.
  • Also gathers and writes monthly newstips from assigned clinical areas.
  • Arranges for and oversees taking of still and motion pictures to supplement news releases and internal publications.
  • Acts as guide for reporters and photographers.
  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
