Department Summary
The Counseling Program at UNT Dallas prepares a multi-culturally competent counselor and a change agent who promotes wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities locally and worldwide. The Program offers two CACREP-accredited master's programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research, our students undergo authentic experiential and evidence-based training. Graduates of the UNTD Counseling program are dedicated leaders and advocates for diversity in the communities they serve.

Position Summary
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) starting in Fall 2024. UNT Dallas - the city's first four-year public institution of higher education - offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st-century, learner-focused, comprehensive urban university.

This faculty position is a tenure-track, 9-month term appointment responsible for teaching graduate-level counseling courses, engaging in scholarship, and engaging in professional and university service.


Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP (The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited or equivalent program.
  • Eligible for a License in Professional Counseling in the State of Texas (LPC).
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence.
  • An established scholarly agenda appropriate to the rank.
  • A documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by education, teaching, clinical experience, and professional affiliations (such as the American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, and Association for Counselor Education and Supervision).
  • Documented professional experience and competency in working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Willingness to engage in community/school-university partnerships.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Experience with the CACREP accreditation process.
  • Evidence of student-orientated instruction and leading within a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated outreach and service activities.
  • Interest in or experience with collaborative grant development.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty
This faculty position is a tenure-track, 9-month term appointment responsible for teaching graduate-level counseling courses, engaging in scholarship, and engaging in professional and university service.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Teaching graduate school counseling courses along with a variety of counseling courses, both web-based and face-to-face
  • Supervising clinical experiences of school counselors and community counselors in both practicum and/or internship
  • Advising students in a Master's level CACREP aligned (working towards CACREP) clinical mental health counseling program.
  • Conducting research and publishing in journals related to the discipline
  • Collaborating with colleagues, and performing community service to the university, profession, and the community
  • Participating in Curriculum Development and program enhancement
  • Courses taught may include, but are limited to: Practicum, Internship, Beginning Counseling Skills, Professional orientation, and Ethics.
