Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Director of Social Work to join our team! This position is a remote position with travel necessary around the state of Texas.

What does the Director of Social Work do? (including but not limited to)

Responsible for the Health Equity, Patient Family Advisory Council, Psychosocial, and Social Work programs within the organization; advises, administers, and manages staff at multiple locations throughout the state. Ensures quality patient care, leads activities and operations associated with the provision of high quality and cost-effective oncology care. Oversees and develops these departments and initiatives; identifies and develops education and training opportunities for patients and staff. Accountable for efficient and professional social work programs and services to promote and enhance the physical and psychosocial functioning for patients and their families. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.



Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Provides leadership and direction to the overall provision and realization of social work services including health equity, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and psychosocial oncology services to patients, families, and healthcare professional to ensure the delivery of high-quality services and programming.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and review of social work and health equity policies, standards, and bio-ethical and legal issues in patient care.
  • Advises how best to provide individual, couple, and family therapy related to health issues for people with
  • Provides consultation services to physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, administrative and other staff as social work and health equity subject matter expert.
  • Maintains and oversees complete and accurate treatment records for all services provided by social workers.
  • Guides multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute services by providing consultation regarding individual, couple, and family issues that may impact cancer treatment.

  • Generates psychosocial assessment and treatment guidelines and algorithms for cancer patients, including cancer survivorship
  • Coordinates the planning and implementation of a number of psychosocial oncology services, such as mind/body programs, social work programs, nutritional programs, stress management & relaxation training services, volunteer programs, and support groups for cancer
  • Support and participate in leadership activities and the social work/psychology community, such as committees, conferences, publishing, teaching and research.

  • Provides assessment, treatment determination advocacy, advanced care planning, crisis assessment, serious illness conversation training, and other necessary services regarding the salient needs/concerns of patients with cancer: living well, improving quality of life, identifying & clarifying goals & values, reviewing future treatment decisions and documenting/communicating patient wishes.
  • Responsible for collaboration with providers and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement advance care planning initiatives and protocols.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and tools related to advance care planning.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare professionals on advance care planning best practices and related quality metrics.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of advance care planning initiatives and related quality metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with quality improvement teams to develop strategies for enhancing advance care planning outcomes and patient experiences.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

EDUCATION:

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Health or Clinical Psychology in social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) required.
  • Current state license as a Clinical Social Worker or Psychologist required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum seven (7) years post-graduate experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • At least five (5) years supervisory experience coaching, developing, and managing staff. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Specific experience in behavioral medicine with expertise working in the spectrum of psychosocial oncology, including psychological assessment, cognitive-behavior therapy, relaxation techniques, systematic desensitization therapy, behavioral preparation for procedures and pain management.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and skill in assessment, psychiatric diagnosis, consultation, and treatment of the psychosocial problems associated with a diagnosis of cancer and its subsequent treatment.
  • Knowledge of designing and implementing various types of behavior management protocols.
  • Knowledge of development, management, and coordination of psychoeducational and therapeutic group services for patients.
  • Knowledge of management, coordination, and development of staff members.
  • Knowledge to understand and ability to demonstrate highly ethical professional behavior.
  • Ability to work well with other professionals and to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to develop and implement protocols for research and evaluation projects.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in public speaking regarding information associated with psychosocial oncology and behavioral medicine.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
