YOU

As the Manager, Structural Component Design, you will manage the staff and services that support the design of structural building components that are provided to our Building Technology team and customers. You will do this by being the technical lead for Enterprise Services; providing quality oversight of work generated in the structural building component design segment of Enterprise Services to ensure compliance with established guidelines and workflows; and manage a team of exceptional professionals to support and grow the services provided to Simpson Strong-Tie customers. You will ensure services meet sales strategy through regular interaction with service partners and sales teams, resolve non-conformance issues, implement service improvements and new services as needed, collaborate closely with the Building Technology support staff and Project Managers requesting design work, and collaborate with the software development team on improvements to service-related applications.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)

Manage design services supporting our Building Technology market segment specifically as it relates to the design of structural building components by providing technical support, quality assurance, training and project coordination with service partners and branch staff. (50%)

Oversee and direct the timely documentation and implementation of new design service or continuous improvements to or modifications to existing services (20%)

Oversee resolution of non-conformance reported by service partners related to services managed. (20%)

Manage the evaluation and implement of requests for improvements from service partners related to services managed. (10%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design/Drafting Diploma preferred.
  • 10 years of experience with design and engineering of prefabricated metal plate connected wood trusses and EWP products. Understanding of wood framed construction practices and details. Knowledge of Provincial and National building codes.
  • Management: Experience in modern management and team motivation techniques and strategies and/or the successful completion of Strong Leader or Emerging Leader training at Simpson Strong-Tie preferred.
  • Influence: Experience building relationships and trust that allows the influence of processes and workflows that is not directly managed to create better outcomes for both services managed and services not managed.
  • Team Player: Demonstrated ability to motivate and work with team members. Must be able to connect, interface, and communicate well with a variety of internal partners in sales, marketing, IT, quality, production and engineering.
  • Math: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
  • Reading Comprehension: Ability to read and interpret construction documents including architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Speaking: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Writing: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Analysis/Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer/Software: Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite, working knowledge of SQL databases, and basic understanding of computer networking, along with hardware and software troubleshooting.

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.

Travel

This position requires domestic and international travel up to 15% of the time.

Work Status & Location

This full-time, exempt position is located in McKinney, TX. Remote work options may be available for the right candidate.

Relocation is not available for this position.

PAY

$102,300 - $165,700 / year

* Posted pay range is based upon national average and may vary depending on geographical work location.
