The Role:
Data is one of Beazley's greatest assets and our data reflects the complexity of our business. Our data architecture is in the process of modernisation and rationalisation. Your role will be essential to our transformation into a digital company to meet our ambitious growth plans. As a Data Modeler, you will be responsible for building the Enterprise Data Model within Beazley's Data Mesh by defining the approach and design for the conceptual, logical and physical data models that will be used to develop Data Products. You will lead the transition to operationalize our data, leading to greater efficiency, higher quality data and better business insights. You will also work within the Chief Data Office and Beazley's business stakeholders to mature data literacy and capabilities as Beazley undertakes a significant investment in modernization, enabling you to embed a culture of data excellence.

Key Responsibilities:
Shape the approach and processes used for developing efficient, high quality data products by designing an Enterprise Data Model (EDM) that considers the operational needs of Domains within a Data Mesh. Provide subject matter expertise to guide the EDM structure, with recommendations for Domains and Subdomains that balance business and technical needs.

  • Create and maintain the Enterprise Data Model and collaborate with Domain data teams to drive alignment to the model
  • Develop and implement best practices for data modelling to ensure integrity and consistency across Beazley
  • Analyse data product requirements and identify sources to support our modernisation programme and development of data products / data mesh
  • Evaluate existing data systems, set the standards and work with the domain and development teams to create conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Ensure data meets the modelling standards, is aligned to our data management framework and enhances business outcomes
  • Present and communicate modeling results and recommendations to internal stakeholders
  • Ensure domain and product owners engage with the data model and understand how this will underpin domains whilst adhering to the Data Mesh and Data Management policies
  • Obsess about reusable components, accelerators and shared frameworks to reduce duplicate effort
  • Work as part of the wider data products team to meet our modernisation and rationalisation objectives across our traditional relational database estate and our modern data architecture implementation
  • Be a trusted partner for the CDO and drive cultural shifts that elevate engagement, literacy and competence across the business to enhance our data future

Personal Specification:
We're looking for candidates with experience designing and implementing an Enterprise Data Model that enables the development of efficient, high quality data products. The successful candidate should have experience with end-to-end model development and entity-relationship design from data preparation to build and validation in an insurance setting. Candidates should be able to demonstrate technical data skills including data modelling and data product design. They should have the ability to innovate, motivate peers, and collaborate across Beazley and with its partners. The successful candidate should have a passion for data and a curious mindset both for Beazley and the wider insurance industry. Great communication skills across all levels of seniority and the ability to represent Data to our colleagues and clients.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Modelling capability with the ability to clearly represent complex ideas graphically
  • Experience working within strategy and product development teams to support data needs
  • Understanding of enterprise modeling, data governance standards, tools, technologies and protocols
  • Familiar with a variety of modelling approaches, tools and model repositories
  • Experience using data modelling tools such as Visual Paradigm and SQL DBM
  • Familiarity with the evolution of Data Lake, Data Warehouse and Data Mesh concepts
  • Ability to translate complex domain specific concepts into knowledge that can be understood and consumed across domains
  • Extensive knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Understanding of large-scale data processing, including the use of stream
  • Proven team player with ability to work with all levels in a highly intellectual, collaborative, and fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor them appropriately for different audiences, technical backgrounds, and seniorit
