Job title: Sr Director, Data Strategy & Advanced Analytics

Current Need

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Senior Director of Data Strategy and Advanced Analytics to join the Decision Intelligence (DI) team of our Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services (PSaS) business. He/she sets the overall data and AI strategy to leverage data across all parts of the business with an overarching eye on what can be done with data, what should be done with data, and where the opportunities to monetize data are through the thoughtful incorporation of data in existing products and new innovative AI solutions. The ideal candidate will be an expert in leveraging data to enhance business outcomes and have a strong understanding of modern AI technologies, machine learning models, and the underlying infrastructure & engineering to reliably deploy these models at scale.

Essential job responsibilities

  • Develop vision and strategy for business-wide data initiatives to support business performance including comprehensive AI strategy for achieving measurable returns on data and AI investments.
  • Partner closely with data product development teams, to understand all analytical use cases across the business, determine AI integration strategies, prioritize efforts, and drive the design, development, and implementation of AI/ML models
  • Lead, motivate, and inspire teams to embrace AI technologies and contribute to the organization's overall success
  • Lead team of data scientists to implement initiatives to gain valuable insights from AI implementation efforts, leveraging data to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency
  • Provide both strategic and hands-on leadership for the data science teams, by aligning their goals with the enterprise goals, and measuring their performance against those goals
  • Streamline AI/ML delivery process with "fail fast" approach for experimenting and Agile implementation process to scale the solutions that has been proven to be valuable for the business
  • Accountable for ensuring AI engineering frameworks, ML systems, data pipelines and security with enterprise value priorities and are deployable
  • Have a deep understanding and appreciation for data governance and AI governance principles and coach the teams to adopt the guidelines for the same
  • Drive key AI initiatives, providing clear timelines and actionable plans for implementation
  • Develop 3rd party data acquisition strategy for the business segment
  • Identify areas needed to up-skill the expertise by attracting new talent to McKesson and/or implementing strategic sourcing partnerships
  • Accountable for aligning with enterprise ML infrastructure decisions and leading ML Engineering and operations team for all of PSaS
  • Ensures all code is well-managed to reduce vulnerabilities, models are well-governed from a risk perspective, and the ML follows best practices in Responsible and Explainable AI.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize AI models and algorithms to improve performance and reliability.

Critical / Must have skills

We seek an accomplished leader, with demonstrated success in leading large teams and transforming companies to be data-driven, leveraging advances in technology & analytics. Specifically, s/he will possess the following:

  • 13+ years of healthcare data and analytics experience, with 6+ years of management experience
  • Bachelor's in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related graduate-level degree. Masters preferred
  • Extensive experience in data strategy development, implementation, AI strategy, ethics, and foundational technology management, preferably within healthcare industry
  • Strong knowledge of data management, AI technologies, trends, best practices, and foundational technology platforms
  • Excellent ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with analytic and non- analytic business partners, including executive leadership, in order to elicit business needs and formulate solutions.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and scaling complex data pipelines for ML models and evaluating their performance
  • Previous experience leading & managing large-scale organizations through significant change management/transformations
  • Previous experience managing complex projects and portfolios to deliver business outcomes
  • Strong leadership skills: excellent team management, coaching and mentoring skills; superior planning, process and influencing skills
  • Must have experience in working with vendors for delivering quality solutions in a cost effective way

Preferred Skills

  • Strong preference for experience working with Healthcare-specific data (HIPAA, GDPR,CCPA); data ethics in ML design, etc.
  • Experience with an industry recognized ML frameworks (scikit-learn, PyTorch, Dask, Spark, Kubeflow, or TensorFlow)

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$172,200 - $287,000
