Job Summary

This position will manage and lead expansion efforts for Simmon's Cancer Center's Nicotine Cessation program, Speaker's Bureau, and Cancer Answer Line. Additionally, this position will directly supervise a team of 3-5 community-facing program specialists responsible for delivering cancer education and/or tobacco treatment. Simmons Nicotine Cessation program helps patients stop smoking and vaping through behavioral interventions and pharmacotherapy. The Speaker's Bureau and Cancer Answer Line address health disparities by connecting community members with critical knowledge on cancer control using best practices for health literacy. In addition to managing public education programs, this role will proactively engage in community outreach and deliver prevention education to address modifiable cancer risks such as young adult nicotine use and physical activity.   • Has experience in oncology and/or tobacco cessation.
  • Has experience in program planning and implementation.
  • Possesses outstanding organizational skills.
  • Has proven experience building positive relationships with a range of community partners.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication, and strong presentation skills.
Education and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field with six (6) years of experience in public education, community work, project/program management, or related field.
  • Masters in related field preferred.
Job Duties
  • Manages the creation and execution of an overall plan for public education and community outreach.
  • Creates partnership pathways for individuals and organizations that align with the program mission and vision.
  • Coordinates various projects, programs, and production in line with patient/public education and outreach goals.
  • Fosters positive and collaborative relationships with community residents, organizations, businesses, etc.
  • Oversees analysis, reporting, and program improvements.
  • Oversees budget expenditures for office, specifically related to outreach and educational activities.
  • Coordinates and executes key community engagement activities.
  • Represents the program(s) in community initiatives and at events that support goals and strategies.
  • Responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance with respect to research participants, collaborators, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Works closely with UTSW Foundation and development staff to identify opportunities for community outreach for education and collaborative partnerships.
  • Assists with strategic development of new research programs and initiatives.
  • May supervise and coach professional and support staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This role requires periodic evening and/or weekend hours to meet community needs. This role requires bending, standing, and lifting materials for community events and education. Mileage reimbursement is provided for work-related travel greater than 20 miles roundtrip.
