Summary

The 3D technologist manipulates the CT/MRI images on workstations, allowing differing perspectives of the scanned anatomy in multiple planes. The 3D technologist must be proficient in cross-sectional anatomy in computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cross-sectional anatomy skills are critical to recognizing abnormalities, pathology, and artifacts within the images. In conjunction with the patient's medical history, this data provides an in-depth analysis with detailed views. Ability to use analytical and critical thinking skills to problem-solve effectively to address clinician's inquiries. Must have ongoing education and knowledge of innovative technologies.

Experience and Education

One of these board licensures required and currently active CT and/or MRI: ARRT ARMRIT. Three (3) years' experience required. Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required. Bachelor's degree, five (5) years' experience and volumetric imaging processing preferred.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include performing high-quality 3D reconstructions of CT and MRI images in multiple planes to make images available for interpretation in a timely fashion. Actively enhance operations by identifying problems and evaluating existing business processes to optimize performance, meet best practice standards, and enhance quality standards to ensure timely reporting.

Manipulates CT and MRI medical images on highly sophisticated 3D workstations and specialized reconstruction software for clinical visualization, qualitative analysis of diagnostic and interventional studies, and calculated volumes as directed.

Excellent interpersonal and timely communication (oral, written, and presentation) skills in alignment with PACT and AIDET standards. Capacity to perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail and to switch from one to another without losing efficiency or composure. Capability to operate independently and competently under pressure.

Responds positively to variations in the work environment caused by changing patient needs; ability to collaborate with coworkers and multidisciplinary teams (i.e., physicians, nursing units, staff members, etc.). Utilizes effective time management to triage priorities, perform job-related requirements, and respond quickly to emergencies.

Manages imaging data transfers and promptly troubleshoots workflow constraints/downtimes with the RIS/PACS teams. Collaborates with other professional colleagues and clinicians to respond to clinicians' detailed requests for views depicting specific anatomy and pathology. Provide technical expertise for developing 3DR imaging protocols on varied patient populations, including 3D vascular exams to include all arteries and veins.

Maintains patient confidentiality, ensuring all protected health information (PHI) transmissions, retrievals, processes, procedures, software, and hardware are secure. Adheres to hospital policies, procedures, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics, and department goals, including stakeholder satisfaction.

Assumes the role of a financial steward ensuring that the correct charges are recorded in the electronic health record. Collaborates with imaging teams to accurately record hospital charges using current procedural terminology coding knowledge. Makes budgetary recommendations and solicits bids for new technologies' software and hardware as needed.

Research as applicable: Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; b) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records. Must be able to lift 40-50lbs.

  • Work requires ability to build high functioning teams that work in tandem within interdepartmental modalities.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Walking, standing, bending, turning and stooping.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
