SUMMARY:

Compile, process, and maintain medical records of Norwood Crossing residents in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Process, maintain, compile, and report patient information for health requirements and standards in a manner consistent with the healthcare industry's numerical coding system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understands and is invested in the mission of Norwood Crossing and our dedication to our residents. This understanding is reflected and exhibited consistently through a customer service approach to the execution of all duties, responsibilities and interactions at the workplace.
  2. Protect the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
  3. Review records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations.
  4. Retrieve patient medical records for physicians, technicians, or other medical personnel.
  5. Release information to persons or agencies according to regulations.
  6. Plan, develop, maintain, or operate a variety of health record indexes or storage and retrieval systems to collect, classify, store, or analyze information.
  7. Enter data, such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures, or treatment into computer.
  8. Compile and maintain patients' medical records to document condition and treatment and to provide data for research or cost control and care improvement efforts.
  9. Process and prepare business or government forms.
  10. Process patient admission or discharge documents.
  11. Assign the patient to diagnosis-related groups (DRGs), using appropriate computer software.
  12. Performs any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to move throughout the workday, including uneven surfaces and stairs with or without assistance.
  • Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with personnel, residents, family members visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and will have a keen understanding of the seniors' market;
  • Must be proactive, self-disciplined and able to demonstrate a high level of productivity, responsibility and accountability.
  • Must have a high degree of interpersonal skill which to deal successfully with clients, community and agency contacts.
  • Must have empathy for, and an understanding of, the needs of the elderly;
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
