A key role in assisting the sales team, the Technical Sales Support Specialist prepares sales proposals for PAPI Growth Industries Solutions, Process Automation Process Industries (PAPI). You will lead the North American technical sales efforts for Growth Industries Verticals by supporting Sales to deliver the best solutions developed from ABB's portfolio. The entire ABB portfolio can be utilized including but not limited to ABB Ability Manufacturing Execution System, APM, Genix, 800xA, ACS500, B&R (Budget & Reporting) and ABB Technical partners. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with sales, the Growth Industry leadership team, marketing, operations and product management as well as Growth Industries customers both at the corporate level and at individual plant locations.

Your responsibilities

  • Deliver on results in meeting Sales Volume and Margin targets for the North America for the Growth Industries markets
  • Understand the scope and ABB products to develop an ABB portfolio solution to meet the customer's requirement. Be able to articulate the value that is delivered by each solution
  • Coordinate and make presentations and product demonstrations to customers. Presentations may cover technical, operational benefits, product features, economic justification, product differentiation, etc
  • Collaborate with Sales/Proposal teams on proposals and bid specification responses for pursuits and review proposals for accuracy and completeness
  • Work with Sales management / Account managers to ensure Solutions are being promoted at accounts
  • Provide assistance and input in meetings, product presentations and negotiations to support Account Manager opportunities
  • Support NAM (North America) Industry Lead and management team in developing related growth strategies for our markets
  • Work with Marketing to support developing focused marketing campaigns for Growth Industries
  • Follow the Growth Industries group defined policies regarding sales pursuit related activities and processes: Required Reporting, Salesforce (Opportunities, visit reports, contacts), North American Hub forecasts (maintained and reported monthly), Request for Proposals, Proposal Approvals, Order logging, Risk reviews, Safe Driving and All Company and Customer Safety Procedures, Required training safety and integrity training
Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field required or equivalent extensive technical work experience in Data Centers preferred and minimum 10 years of experience in sales or business development related to digital /automation solutions and products in a Process Industry required
  • Knowledge in the following industries a plus: Food & Beverage, Cement, Metals Industries
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Experience in business development, capital equipment sales or service sales
  • Team leadership skills to lead a small team
  • Excellent customer contact, presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate well with multiple stakeholders regionally and globally
  • A focus on end users, listening and understanding their wants and needs, goals and objectives, how they buy, maintain their equipment, how they partner with suppliers
  • Good time/activity/priority management skills
  • Ability to support development of proposals and strategies that lead to winning orders
  • Intense competitor knowledge; Passion for selling
  • Knowledgeable in the use of PC and related software including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel 50 percent to 60 percent of the time
  • Knowledge and use of Salesforce
  • A good understanding of the process control and automation solutions
  • Previous experience in a sales or business development position with demonstrated success in business growth
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
