Job Description
Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager for capital projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1) In a lead capacity,

(a) plans, develops, coordinates, and directs large and important engineering projects or a number of small projects with many complex features. A substantial portion of the work directed is comparable to that described for Engineer II or

(b) is responsible for the engineering function of a program segment of significant complexity and scope.

2) As an individual researcher or worker, carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined equipment, materials, processes, products, and/or methods, or

3) As a staff specialist develop and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others, assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluations, products, or equipment, when necessary, data is insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable. Usually performs as a staff advisor and consultant as to a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment or program function.

POSITION SCOPE:

Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently of engineering problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of sciences and various engineering disciplines. The knowledge and expertise required for this level of work results from progressive experience.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. This level engineer consults with his manager concerning unusual problems and developments.

Frequently coordinates, and / or reviews the work of a small group of engineers and technicians (project team), estimates workforce needs and schedules, and organizes work to meet completion date, or (2) as an individual researcher or a staff specialist may be assisted on projects by other engineers or technicians.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & TRAVEL:

Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to use of Personal Protective Equipment, ladders, noise above 80 dB, handling objects weighing up to 50 lb., solvent fumes, and inks.

Travel Requirements: Travel is required to various facilities to support projects 30-40% per year. Some International travel is required.

WORK CONDITIONS:

The majority of tasks will be performed in an office environment while sitting at a workstation. When working in the field, incumbent may be required to work on the plant floor, make long walks to review existing conditions, take measurements, etc. Position is typically a Monday-Friday day position, except for working in plants or supporting projects which may result in longer hours for periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS: (List and describe the minimum qualifications required to perform the job. Be sure to justify each skill with a corresponding essential function

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum

Experience: 10 years of applicable engineering experience.

Registration: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification required (within 6 months for external hires)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Possesses the skills of a level II engineer plus capability to evaluate technologies that are new to the Company and can provide leadership with respect to the application of those technologies.

  • Possesses the ability to write major production equipment specifications, purchase contracts, and, with the assistance of others, can negotiate these purchases.

  • Has the ability to travel internationally and independently evaluate prospective sites for company expansion, both Greenfield, leased and rehabilitated situations.

  • Can promote and sell engineering services to internal customers.
