Director -- Platform Modernization
This position will be a champion software engineering and release transformation leading the enterprise wide modernization and maturity in DevSecOps, Quality Engineering, Software Architecture and Engineering Design and an enhanced Developer Experience. Drive the integration of secure and collaborative practices that enable an evironment that builds for quality at each step of the Delivery process and automates compliance through engineering rather than through human governance with the outcome being a steamlined, high quality, and developer-friend engineering platform that enables delivery agility and predictability.
The incumbent will partner with the their peers in Enterprise Platform Engineering, Business Information Office, Chief Technology Office, Architecture, Technology Transformation and Risk, and Enterprise Security teams to ensure staffing, prioritization, delivery/execution, standards, and controls are met or exceed, and that problems/issues are resolved. This role will champion the benefits of enterprise reuse to maximize the value that the Enterprise Developer Platform and associated practices can enable for Comerica.
This role will also provide expert leadership, instruction, and direction to all team members, both direct and shared, as they complete their responsibilities, as well as regularly communicate with executive leadership.
Position responsibilities:
Strategy:
Develops and leads the following:
  • Enterprise level strategy leadership for DevSecOps, Quality Engineering, Developer Experience, and Software Architecture, Engineering and Enterprise Shared Components.
  • Developing a stratgic roadmap create or enhance capabilities (people, process and technology) for DevSecOps, , Quality Engineering, Developer Experience, and Software Architecture, Engineering and Enterprise Shared Components.
Delivery, Planning and Execution:
  • Developing and Deliver effective proposals to advance the strategy and roadmaps for DevSecOps, Quality Engineering, Developer Experience, and Software Architecture, Engineering and Enterprise Shared Components in a manner that provides crisp and clear business value to executive leadership.
  • In addition to delivery on the strategy and roadmap to advance capabilities, ensure that projects that require resource engagement to leverage to utilize DevSecOps, Quality Engineering, Developer Experience, and Software Architecture, Engineering and Enterprise Shared Components are staffed according to organizational priority and impact.
  • Coach and monitor the team to ensure that projects are delivered on time and with high quality.
  • Establishes metrics to measure timeliness and quality of development deliverables.
  • Provides leadership to team to enable timely resolution of problems and issues.
Technology / Operational / Risk Control:
  • Maximize operational stability.
  • Advance the DevSecOps, Quality Engineering, Developer Experience, and Software Architecture, Engineering and Enterprise Shared Components capabilities to automate operational controls, and risk mitigation across the enterprise.
  • Effectively manage all forms of operational risk associated with managed capabilities and technologies.
Financial Planning
  • Maintain oversight of all technology project financials, ensuring commitments are properly planned, monitored and delivered.
  • Develop and implement plan to track usage of technology investments.
  • Accountable for creating, securing approval for and management of Business Unit expense budgets, while exhibiting strict cost discipline.
  • Accountable for understanding and driving meaningful implications of key financial indicators, and the use financial analysis to create and evaluate strategic options and opportunities.
  • Accountable for negotiating and managing multi-million-dollar contracts and vendor relationships on behalf of the bank.
  • Explore and deploy tools and associated practices to build consumption patterns, identify cost optimization opportunities and provide input to financial planning activities.
HR / Transformation / Diversity Management
  • Directs and manages staff performance and development processes.
  • Oversees staff salary administration processes, applying appropriate rules and governance to ensure equity and fairness.
  • Staffing and sourcing strategy needed to address changing workforce dynamics including building pipeline for future talent.
  • Development of plan for use of alternative resources, including contractors in managed services.

Qualifications:
  • 4 year Bachelors Degree in Math, Science, or Engineering or 15 years of relevant IT experience or equivalent operational responsibilities
  • 12 years of progressively responsible experience
  • 10 or more years Managing others including leading and motivating large diverse teams
  • 10 or more years Relevant IT Management Experience
  • 10 or more years Portfolio/Program/Human Resources Management experience
  • 10 or more years Project Management experience
  • 10 or more years DevSecOps engineering practitioner
  • 8 or more years of Application Development experience on multiple applications
  • 8 years Engineering with a large regulated corporate environment
