Job Description

Position Summary:
Prepares and processes parts through a fluorescent penetrant inspection system, evaluates, and makes accept/reject decisions. Inspects parts using fluorescent penetrant inspection processes and equipment. Performs job independently under minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Immerse, paint or spray parts with fluorescent penetrant and let penetrant dwell on parts for a specified amount of time.
  • Water rinse penetrant from parts, dry parts, develop parts, and then inspect parts under black light for surface indications. Make accept / reject decisions utilizing SPD or customers specifications and document inspection results per SPD approved procedures.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly and monthly process checks per SPD approved procedures. Ensure all equipment and gages utilized have current calibration stickers.
  • Remain familiar with all codes, standards and other contractual documents that control the penetrant method.
  • Understand and perform all job duties in accordance with SPD safety guidelines, including use of MSDS sheets as required.
  • Support co-workers as assigned by department Supervisor, Lead or Certified Penetrant Level 3.
  • Develop penetrant techniques or work instructions as required per SPD or customer specifications.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on penetrant equipment as required per SPD procedures.
  • Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years recent experience with liquid penetrants. Applicant must have successfully completed 32 hours of Penetrant Classroom Training per the requirements of NAS-410 or A.A.S NDT Degree.
  • Must be familiar with codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the method utilized.
  • Able to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers about work product and processes and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to read and understand written instructions, procedures, drawings and blueprints. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 400 hours of Penetrant on the job training to become eligible for Penetrant Level 2 certification.
  • Requires Vision examination per the requirements of QCS-131
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to utilize computer to access specifications and complete Penetrant Inspection reports. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

This role is subject to compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which requires the incumbent to be either a US citizen, lawful permanent resident ["green card" holders], or have refugee or asylee status).
