What You Will Do:

The Plumbing/ Mechanical Estimator will interact externally with engineers, architects, consultants, owners, representatives, and plumbing equipment vendors, and within the organization with Project Managers, Directors, GC estimators and Field personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Accurately estimate plumbing and mechanical project scopes in commercial and industrial markets using digitized take-off software.
  • Review and interpret plans and specifications to determine job-specific material, equipment, and labor requirements, and prepare bid documents/proposals.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings to become familiar with unique project requirements and attend post-bid review meetings to negotiate/finalize scope, schedule, and price.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with material suppliers, equipment vendors, subcontractors, general contractors, and other clients (owners/end users).
  • Work closely with the construction department manager and project managers to continuously improve current processes through analyzing past performance, and to develop/further the strategic goals of the construction department.
  • Organize and frequently update estimating software material cost databases to ensure accurate costs are consistently utilized on bids.
  • Assist in project management tasks as needed, including budgeting, change order pricing, procurement, value engineering, and vendor selection.
  • In collaboration with Project Managers, they will attend Project Kickoff and Percent Complete meetings.
  • Assist in gathering information to complete Bid Qualification and Criteria requirements.
  • Maintain and keep current bid list to send to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Assist Project Manager with subcontractor and major equipment supplier's selection during bid process and before bids are awarded.
  • Write scope letters describing the jobs in which he or she bid.

What You Bring to the Team:

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a mechanical or construction discipline, comparable trade school certification requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in the construction industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint).
  • Proficient or previous usage of Trimble - Auto Bid Software.
  • Knowledgeable in plumbing and mechanical systems, and material types.
  • Experience in design-build projects a plus.
  • Ability to effectively dissect front-end bid documents and specifications.
  • Familiar with plumbing, HVAC, and boiler codes.
  • Requires an ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and adjust to changing situations.
  • Requires initiative, attention to detail/accuracy, and an ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while dealing with co-workers, clients, vendors, etc.
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision while still able to collaborate in team settings.
  • Knowledge of Procore.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. As part of our focus on being a Great Place to Work, we want to make sure we are clear on a few more basics we expect:

  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, be able to use a telephone and operate a keyboard.
  • Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
