Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Specialty Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Program Manager of Drug Access will provide support to Pharmacy's central hub service for Drug Access. As part of this support, this role has two main responsibilities: overseeing all workflows as it relates to patients accessing drug therapies and is responsible for oversight of drug reimbursement. As a central hub service for drug access, pharmacy personnel within this service line provide support for all drug-related insurance authorizations, through both medical and pharmacy benefits and assists in mitigating financial barriers to drug access for patients.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Responsible for drug access to the following service lines:

    • Specialty Pharmacy.

    • Home Infusion.

    • Hospital Outpatient Infusion.

  • Manages drug access services lines under the central hub scope of work: Insurance authorization.

    • Ensures team is efficient at obtaining necessary insurance authorization to access drug treatments, through both pharmacy and medical benefits.

    • Responsible for understanding medical benefit denials for drug therapies: identifies gaps and creates countermeasures to mitigate financial loss.

  • Manages drug access services lines under the central hub scope of work: Financial Assistance.

    • Oversees team that provides financial services to patients with the objective to mitigate financial barriers to drug access.

    • Understands patient assistance programs and how to leverage the available programs to reduce the financial burden to patients.

    • Can effectively navigate the operational complexities of manufacturer's sponsored drug access program.

  • Managing pharmacy teams, consisting mostly of pharmacy liaisons that support central hub service line.

    • Regularly meets with team members to optimize workflows, identify operational gaps and creates goals for service line.

    • Sets goals for individual team members and manages all employee-related functions.

    • Responsible for development of new services and growth of service line.

  • Meets with key stakeholders to implement necessary workflow strategies that optimize drug access and pharmacy revenue.

    • Leverages technology to streamline workflows and reduces gaps in care.

    • Understands barriers to care and meets with clinic leaders to create countermeasures.

Effectively understand pharmacy reimbursement and make recommendation to leadership to optimize revenue streams.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician in the State of Massachusetts by the hire date.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires at least 5 years of pharmacy experience (as a technician, buyer, or leadership role etc.), with demonstrated leadership skills through experiences and examples.

  • Additional experience including direct supervision of employees is preferred.

  • Experience in an acute care hospital setting in a pharmacy department preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Comprehensive understanding of all the procedures, systems, and equipment used by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians as well as a high level of proficiency in performing pharmacy technician duties and responsibilities.

  • High level of analytical ability, organizational and personal management skill to function as a role model and focus to ensure the concerted approach to operations. Must also be able to evaluate current pharmacy services and procedures to improve them by gathering data from a wide variety of sources through an evaluative research process. In addition, must have some practice experience working with, as well as, revising and/or implementing information systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to hospital healthcare personnel working cooperatively and collaboratively to resolve situations and problems, as well as effectively communicating and displaying leadership within and outside of the department.

  • Computer proficiency including word processing, spread sheet, and database maintenance.
